Exploring Art History at the Emory Carlos Museum

Recently I got to take a group of students to an amazing field trip at the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University.  The guided tour gave us an insight into the science and technology that are used behind the scenes in a museum.  We learned how artworks and artifacts are conserved and repaired, and the decisions that conservationists have to make.  We learned how the museum used x-ray technology to reconstruct and repair an ancient mummy.  The museum has an amazing collection and knowledgeable docents.

If you are in the Atlanta area, I highly recommend checking it out!  If you teach Art History or AP Art History, it affords students the opportunity to see Aztec, Greek, Roman, and Egyptian Art in person.
